This blog follows my ongoing PHD research into The Hobbit movies. I created it for three main reasons - 1) As a way of collecting my thoughts and ideas, 2) to keep myself motivated, and 3) to share my findings on this exciting project with anyone who might be interested.
I am a PHD student, studying Media, Film and Communications Studies (MFCO) at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. My current research is centred on the upcoming Hobbit movie by director,Peter Jackson.
I am focussing on the fan reception to the movies through a survey of online fan websites and discussion boards in the lead up to the films‘ release. It is my aim to explore the way fans use these particular websites, and how the sites are also used by the studio and director to market the films. I begun this project in November 2009, and aim to complete it by the end of 2012.
It's not all doom and gloom (see previous post). Check out this story, posted today on theonering.net. It's the strongest indication yet that the movie is going to be made!
